DFW Spring Bucket List

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

Spring is around the corner! This gorgeous time of year in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex beckons you to spend more time outdoors exploring the area’s best parks, entertainment destinations, arts districts, and festivals. Take a look at Ladera’s DFW Spring Bucket List for inspiration.

See the Blooms

Don’t miss the breathtaking beauty of the season. Dallas Blooms at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is taking place now through April 16. This annual spring festival was named by Southern Living among the “Best Places to See Spring Blooms Across the South.”

This spring festival showcases an explosion of color from 100 varieties of spring bulbs, 500,000 spring-blooming blossoms, thousands of azaleas, and hundreds of Japanese cherry trees.

The award-winning Fort Worth Botanic Garden is another can’t-miss destination in the springtime. Tulips and daffodils flourish throughout the property as the Japanese Garden blooms with multitudes of cherry, peach, and crab apples. In April, roses in the historic Rose Garden begin to bloom and the Spring Japanese Festival takes place April 22-23.

Take a Day Trip

Speaking of spring blooms – Bluebonnet season is just around the corner. While you’ll see them in bloom throughout the Metroplex, it’s also a great time of year to plan a day trip to nearby Ennis to visit the “Official Bluebonnet Trail of Texas.”

Running from April 1-30, visitors can explore 40 miles of these stunning wildflowers. The Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival also takes place from April 14-16.

Explore Local Farmers Markets

The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is home to dozens of celebrated farmers markets. It’s the ideal time of year to visit the Dallas Farmers Market – located in the heart of Downtown Dallas – to find seasonal produce, free-range meats, fresh eggs, artisan pantry staples, and handmade arts & crafts.

Another DFW farmers market to explore this spring? The Frisco Fresh Market. Featuring nearly 100 vendors, this robust market is open weekends and located next door to Toyota Stadium.

Close to our Ladera communities in Fort Worth and Mansfield, the Clearfork Farmers Market operates at The Trailhead overlooking the Trinity River. Shop for locally-grown produce, pastries and coffee, and handcrafted goods every Saturday from 8 a.m.-Noon.

The Rockwall Farmers Market returns this spring beginning May 6! Located in Downtown Rockwall and recognized among the best farmers markets in the Dallas area, the Rockwall Farmers Market features seasonal produce, specialty foods, artisan breads, honey and jams, farm eggs, and so much more.

Outdoor Recreation

When you live in a Ladera DFW community, you have ample opportunities to enjoy the spring sunshine by taking a walk on our trails or meeting up at The HUB to play a game of pickleball with friends.

Our communities are also surrounded by some of the area’s best parks and lakes! Fort Worth is renowned for its 100+ mile Trinity Trail system. As the weather warms up, Benbrook Lake in Benbrook and Joe Pool Lake in Mansfield are also the perfect places to kayak, fish, and paddleboard.

In the Dallas area, Lake Lewisville features several parks with trails, boat/kayak launches, and campgrounds. Ladera is excited to soon begin building in Ladera Little Elm, the newest 55+ DFW community situated on a Lake Lewisville Peninsula.

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is a gorgeous 200-acre park in Plano. Explore the preserve’s hiking trails and take in the beauty of nature in the spring.

Enjoy the Arts

Dallas-Fort Worth is well-known for its arts and cultural districts. This spring, AT&T Performing Arts Center will host Anastasia, Tootsie and Fiddler on the Roof musicals. Annie the musical is also coming to the Bass Performance Hall at the end of March!

Now through June, the Dallas Museum of Art will be the final venue to host Saints, Sinners, Lovers, and Fools: 300 Years of Flemish Masterworks, an exhibition showcasing more than 130 works from the Flanders region of Belgium, spanning from the 1400s through the 1600s.

Over at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, immerse yourself in I’ll Be Your Mirror: Art and the Digital Screen, a thematic group exhibition that examines the screen’s vast impact on art from 1969 to the present.

Attend a Local Event

Our DFW Spring Bucket List would not be complete without mentioning the fun festival and events taking place this season!

The Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival, Downtown Fort Worth’s largest and most popular annual event, returns April 20-23. This festival showcases incredible art, fantastic music, and delicious food.

Mayfest is also coming up May 4-7! This four-day Fort Worth festival features live music, performing arts, festival food, an Art and Gift Market, and so much more.

In Waxahachie, the Scarborough Renaissance Festival returns April 8-May 29 with medieval characters and festivities, mouth-watering food, and a unique artisan village.
